County Match Report No 8

The Staffordshire short mat county team travelled to Leeds to face West Yorkshire A in their final match of the season, having beaten them at home the previous week.

With Stockport already champions, we needed only a handful of points to secure the runner-up spot in Division 1 of the NESMBA.

We were excellent, yet again, recording a fine 24-16 victory. So it was 7 wins from the 8 matches played, better than any other team.

Laughing Congratulations and thanks to all the players involved.Laughing

County Match Report No 7

In their penultimate fixture and final home match, the Staffordshire Short Mat Bowling Team entertained the very strong West Yorkshire A in their quest for second place in Division 1 of the NESMBA league.

As anyone who plays our sport will know, drawn games are quite rare. So it is remarkable to report that 5 of the 16 games were drawn. With only 1 defeat in the other 11 games,

Staffordshire completed an excellent 33-7 victory. Our final match of the season, the reverse fixture,

is next Sunday at Armley Leisure Centre, Leeds, with a start at 11:00am.

County Match Report No 6

Well, someone had to suffer for last week's big defeat at Stockport and the unfortunate recipients were North Yorkshire "A". Staffs were excellent and had a huge 38-2 victory.

So, we entertain West Yorkshire "A" next Sunday 17 February 2019 before travelling to Leeds the following week for the return fixture.

The overall victor in these two matches will finish in the runner-up position in Division 1 of the NESMBA league

County Match Report No 5

After our fine 21-19 victory over Stockport A the previous week, we travelled for the return fixture with hopes of a good result.

The hosts had other ideas, however, not wishing to face a third defeat in a row. A solitary victory in one of the triples in the morning two sessions avoided a whitewash and the afternoon two sessions were not much better. The final result of 5-35 did not reflect our performance, but Stockport A were much too good on the day and secured back to back championships. Many congratulations to a great team.

So we now face a battle for second place with West Yorkshire A who we still have to play home and away. We each have three matches left, and both have to face North Yorkshire A at home.

Our match v North Yorkshire "A"  being next Sunday, 10th February, starting at 11:00am at Baddeley Green Club.

County Match Report No 4

On Sunday, 27th January, 2019 the Staffordshire County team maintained their 100% start to the season in the NESMBA Division 1 with a narrow 21-19 victory over the defending champions and current league leaders, Stockport A.

The match was highly competitive as the score suggests with much top class bowling and was most enjoyable.

The return fixture is on Sunday, 3rd February in Cheadle, Cheshire, and is eagerly awaited by both teams.

The next county home match at Baddeley Green is Sunday, 10th February when we entertain North Yorkshire A.

County Match Report No 3

The Staffs team travelled to North Cave to face Humberside A and returned with a 24-16 victory.

This is not an easy place to play as the mats are much slower than ours, and, in fact, we lost there last season.

Our next match is on Sunday, 27th January at Baddeley Green Club when we face defending champions and current leaders Stockport.

For anyone interested in short mat bowling, please come along and support us as some of the best bowlers in the country will be playing in what should be a very competitive encounter.

County Match Report No2

The Staffordshire county team were 28-12 winners against a very competitive Humberside A team, and now move into second place in Division 1 of the NESMBA League.

Our total of 61 points from our first 2 matches leaves us only 13 points behind leaders West Yorkshire A, but they have played 1 match more.

Our next fixture is on 13th January, 2019, when we travel to North Cave for the return fixture with Humberside A.

FOOTWEAR AT MATCHES

FOOTWARE

Would all clubs ensure this season that all their players have a change of footware and that it is used before stepping on any mat. There is a rule in the book covering this but it is common courtesy to do so.

Rule 7 Footwear

Bowling Shoes or any smooth heel-less footwear must be worn while playing on the rink mat, and these must be other than the ones worn whilst travelling to the venue.
