Producing the fixtures for a league can be one of the secretary’s most difficult tasks. David Sanderson has produced a useful guide to the problem, which is available on the BCGBA site.

His method (like others) is based on using a “pattern” to assign fixtures to each team in the league. It helps to avoid greens being double-booked, and to avoid long runs of consecutive home or away matches.

I have automated the method in an Excel spreadsheet, which is available for download below (it requires Excel 2000 or later). You will probably also need to study the user guide.
