Fixture generation

There are many methods of ranking players. The method used depends on the league (in Bowrap it depends on the scoring scheme in use). Some of these methods are not true averages.

The two most common methods are:

True average = Total points scoredTotal points conceded

Bolton & district
Players are ranked on points, calculated as (Home games won × 2) + (Away games won × 3). If tied on this measure, the ‘average’ is taken into account, here defined as points scored / points conceded.

Players are ranked on points, calculated as (Home games won × 2) + (Away games won × 3). If tied on this measure, net aggregate chalks are taken into account (with walkovers credited as 21-11 wins at home and 21-16 away).

The Clough Hall Bowls Club (in Kidsgrove) uses aggregate scoring for matches but has its own method of ranking players using the average points per game. Points are awarded as follows:

  • Home win: 6 points
  • Away win: 7 points
  • Home defeat scoring 20: 4 points
  • Away defeat scoring 20: 6 points
  • Home or away defeat scoring 15 to 19: 3 points
  • Home or away defeat scoring 10 to 14: 2 points
  • Home or away defeat scoring 5 to 9: 1 point

The Knypersley Bowls Club uses aggregate scoring for matches but has its own method of ranking players using the average points per game. Points are awarded as follows:

  • Home win: 6 points
  • Home defeat scoring 20: 4 points
  • Home defeat scoring 15 to 19: 3 points
  • Home defeat scoring 10 to 14: 2 points
  • Home defeat scoring 5 to 9: 1 point
  • Away win: 8 points
  • Away defeat scoring 20: 5 points
  • Away defeat scoring 16 to 19: 4 points
  • Away defeat scoring 12 to 15: 3 points
  • Away defeat scoring 8 to 11: 2 points
  • Away defeat scoring 4 to 7: 1 point

The RSJC Bowls Club (in Birmingham) uses aggregate scoring for matches but has its own method of ranking players:

  • Home win between 21-0 and 21-9: 3 points
  • Home win between 21-10 and 21-20: 2 points
  • Home defeat scoring 14 and under: -1 point
  • Away win between 21-0 and 21-9: 4 points
  • Away win between 21-10 and 21-20: 3 points
  • Away defeat scoring 15 shots or more: 1 point
