Knutsford Friday Bowling League

Minutes of meeting held Thursday 13th June 2019 at Mere Parish Club

  1. Apologies for absence were received from Chris Grice (President) Mike Grocott (Oughtrington) John Leah, Ian & Barbara Palfreyman (Chelford) Glenise Barnett (Knutsford). Chelford, High Legh, Knutsford, Mere, & Victory Hall were not represented.
  2. Minutes of previous meeting held 24th January were posted on the web site and all items were covered at the AGM held in February
  3. Matters arising. There were no matters arising
  4. Officers Report. The Chairman had nothing to report. The Secretary thanked the clubs who hosted the preliminary rounds of the Individual competition, and Chelford’s members for running the final day. The event was won by home player Vic Massey who defeated Tim Davies from the Victory Hall. He said that the local paper had been sent a photograph of the winner together with a short report, but we are in the hands of the paper as to whether it’s published. He went on to remind delegates that we have a vacancy to fill following Knutsford Bowling Club dropping a team, and asked that they mention this to clubs in other leagues, particularly in the Northwich/Wilmslow areas. The Chairman had forgotten to welcome our new Treasurer, but did so as she reported that this being mid-season there was little activity with the accounts, and had only to pay a couple of bills.
  5. New Player Handicaps Handicaps were agreed for players who had now completed more than four games.
  6. Pairs Entries and Draw 24 Pairs were received and the draw was made. Preliminary rounds will be held on Friday 28th June with the final 16 playing on Saturday 29th June at the Railway Inn 12.30pm start. The draw will be published on the web site.
  7. Jack Bryning 4-a-Side Team Knockout. The Secretary asked if the entry was mandatory in that all clubs would be entered into the competition, or would entry be voluntary? Whilst it was thought that this would probably be a good idea in that the entry fee (23 x £6 entry = £138) would almost cover the prize money of £145 it was felt that this should go to next year’s AGM for approval. Individual handicaps would be applied as rule 8.5 (a) and 8.5 (b) The quarter-finals onwards will be played out at the Victory Hall instead of Mere as Mere intend to close the green early to enable restoration work to be carried out.
  8. Succession of Officers. The meeting was reminded that the Secretary will retire at next year’s AGM and as yet no one has shown an interest in taking over. Without a Secretary it’s difficult to see how the league can continue, so the Chairman urged to delegates to seek a volunteer from over 300 registered league members.
  9. Any Other Business.
There was no further business and the meeting closed at 8.30pm
