News update

Janet Rincavage is doing quite well - even managing a cup of tea and some joghurt.  However, Doctors have requested that only family visit her, so can we wish her well from a distance and allow her family as much time to be with her as possible.

Many thanks

Tessa

Janet Rincavage

We have learnt that our good friend and colleague Janet Rincavage (Todwick PBC) suffered a very serious stroke during last week.  Her recovery was in grave doubt for a while, but she has now been transferred to RDGH and is progressing slowly..  Her husband, Brian, is hoping that the more people wishing her well the better.  We will keep you up-dated with any news and Brian can rest assured, we will all be wishing her a speedy recovery.

Awards Presentation Lunch

A rather miserable day on Saturday November 4th saw a more boisterous gathering of ladies to congratulate our winners and celebrate another successful season.  An excelent meal, a drink or two and some good company rounded off the year well.  Kath Walton - our chairperson for many previous years, was present and  - at 91 - still going strong, but it was a pity that our current Chairperson - Pat Elliott - was unable to attend due to an attack of vertigo.  We all wish her a speedy recovery.  Also showing a good recovery from recent surgery were Pauline Farrar and Mary Bird. We are all looking forward to a more healthy 2024.

Our grateful thanks to Rosie Robins who organised everything to run like clockwork, and to all who helped the raffle raise £170 for our funds.

Janet Wilson

 JANET WILSON

Some of you may remember Janet - sister of Jean Goodyear and Judy Watkinson.  I am sad to report that Janet died last Saturday following a long illness.  Her funeral is on Friday November 3rd at 12 noon at Babworth Crematorium.  This will be followed by refreshments at the Shireoaks Inn , Worksop, from 1.15 pm.  Janet was a very forthright and formidable lady, but full of fun too.  I took over the treasurers job from her many years ago and remember her well. R.I.P. Janet

Norma Banks

Many of you will remember Norma Banks, who played for Thurcroft for many years.  We are sad to report that she died last week - her funeral will be on September 27th, 10am at Rotherham Crematorium.  Norma was a fierce competitor, a delightful funny lady and will be missed by all   Our sympathies are with her family and many friends.  R.I.P.   (Tessa)

CHAMPION OF CHAMPIONS

Sunday 10th September was a perfect day for the final highlight if our season  -

THE CHAMPION OF CHAMPIONS competion to crown the best of our players.

The first and second averages winners of all 4 leagues qualified  -  unfortunately 3 were not available to play (A Div 1; Vets 1; Doubles 2) - as they were already committed elsewhere, but we will be able to congratulate them all at the Presentation of awards lunch in November.  As permitted by Bye-Law 30, the next in line to qualify (Competition Winners) filled the 3 places

Because thunderstorms and heavy rain had been forcast, play got under way a little early, but we needn't have worried:  apart from a few drops around lunch time, the weather was ideally suited for bowling and the watching friends and supporters were treated to some of the very best play in every match.  All games were hard fought and the results of all were very close.  Eventually, despite a spirited fight-back from runner-up Doreen Farncombe,

the winner and CHAMPION OF CHAMPIONS 2023 WAS  -  MANDY CLARRICOATES!  Many congratulations

Charity Pairs Competition.

The Charity Pairs competition, held on Worksop CSC on Sunday 6th August was well supported with 10 pairs entered.  Everyone got at least 2 games and the team round robin format worked well  The weather was perfect for bowling and the 2 volunteer 'tossers' managed to get the correct pair to the correct jack on time, with much cheerful goodwill.

Doreen Farncome and Jane Cocking proved victorious, winning 14 - 12 on the 15th end.

Many thanks to Worksop CSC for hosting, Ann Maddison for her hard work in the kitchen and the 2 gentlemen starters.

Including donations of £85, raffle and bottle game proceeds of £67.50 as well as the entrance fees,a final total raised for Bluebellwood Childrens Hospice. was made up to £260 by DDLBA who also contributed a further £60 prize money.  Well done everyone!!
