Cheadle & Gatley District Bowling League

General Information

The Cheadle and Gatley District Bowling League exists to promote Crown Green Bowling in its area. This area nowadays extends beyond the old Cheadle and Gatley Urban District, and includes Stockport, South Manchester and parts of North-east Cheshire.

See the green finder for a list of clubs and links to maps showing where they are.

We run a league for men’s teams playing on Tuesday evenings and a veterans’ league (for men over 60) playing on Tuesday and Wednesday afternoons. The evening league currently has three divisions, and the veterans’ league has six divisions. Ideally there are ten teams in each division (18 matches), but it is sometimes necessary to go to eleven or twelve teams.

The evening teams consist of ten players each and the veterans play in teams of eight. The leagues are decided on aggregate points scored.

We also run knock-out cup competitions for each league - the evening teams play for the Bob Newlan Memorial Trophy and the veterans play for the Jennison Shield. Each league has an individual Merit competition.

The current rules were adopted at the AGM in 2003; there have been minor changes since.

For more information about the league, please contact the secretary, by e-mail.
