Sale and District Bowling League

Minutes of the Annual General Meeting held on Wednesday 10th November 2010 at Brooklands

Present: Chairman D.Hurdwell, Secretary K.Mitchell, President/Treasurer M.Bexon and delegates from all teams except Red Lion,Longford,Longsight and Quarry Bank.

The Chairman opened the meeting at 7.35 and welcomed all delegates. He gave a brief account of how he felt the season had gone and congratulated all winners.

The Chairman then announced the passing of John Horn of South West Manchester. The meeting stood in silence for a short while as a mark of respect.

One apology for absence was received from Longsight.

The Secretary then read the minutes of the last AGM held on 18th November 2009. They were agreed by the meeting to be a true record and there were no matters arising.

In his report the Secretary stated that Quarry Bank had joined the League this season and had played in Div 2. This was because they planned to play an inexperienced team but when the season started many of those players were unavailable and the strong team they put out had won their matches with very large points scores. However as the season progressed inexperienced players began to play and although they won Div2 and the Fives Comp their reduced scores confirmed the reason to place them in Div 2. He congratulated Levenshulme on winning Div 1 and Mike Bacon of Fallowfield on winning the Div 1 Averages, each for the third successive year. He said the League had generally had a trouble free season. Finally, as he was resigning this evening, he thanked all captains and delegates for their cooperation over the past six seasons. He then particularly thanked Derrick Hurdwell and Maurice Bexon for their huge contributions in running the Sale League with him.

The Fixture Secretary commented on the exciting title races in Div 1 and Div 2 with Levenshulme and Quarry Bank coming out on top respectively. He gave a special mention to Nursery in Div 2 who just missed out in all 3 Div 2 competitions. Particularly hard to take was the Fives Comp when they won all matches in their section but lost out as the winners are determined by most chalks. As he was resigning this evening for personal reasons he made a point of thanking all captains for their cooperation in providing results in good time.

Treasurer Maurice Bexon reported that our balance had improved by about £36 to £814.16 despite increasing the awards by £100. Other items had remained similar to the levels of the previous year and so he proposed that the Flat Fee stayed at £35.

Maurice Bexon gave the Competition Secretary's report and commented that there was excellent bowling in all comps. However as in previous years entries in the Eric Dale Pairs and the Sale Merit were poor which was disappointing. Tony Flanagan and Steve Crowder from Carrington won the Eric Dale Pairs and Steve White of Quarry Bank won the Sale Merit. He said that the Fives Comp had provided an exciting Final with Quarry Bank just beating Longford 176 to 171. Pride of Sale winners were Fallowfield whilst the Presidents Pairs winners were Longford. He thanked Brian Cliff and the Longsight members for their hospitality on Finals Day.

Auditor Ross Kavanagh congratulated Maurice on the way in which he had managed the League's finances over the season and for presenting the documentation on good order.

Honoraria

Alan Ball took the chair whilst the officers concerned left the room. Although the Secretary, Fixture Secretary and Treasurer were all resigning the meeting felt they should leave the room whilst this discussion took place. The end result was that each officer was awarded £100 in recognition of their work for the League. All three were genuinely surprised by the outcome and thanked the delegates for their generosity. It was agreed that in future years honoraria would be paid at the AGM following the closing of the League's books in mid October , therefore the above payments would not harm the League's balance in the coming financial year.

    This was passed unanimously.
