Meeting 19 May 2016 at Mere Parish Club

Apologies for Absence: Apologies were received from A. Perks Secretary, M. Grocott &F. Taylor (Oughtrington), J Bason & K Perks (Cranford), J. Glover (Swettenham), G.Barnett & H. Crook ( KBL).

Minutes of Previous Meeting (28 Jan 2016): The key points of the minutes were read and accepted by the meeting together with the ‘matters arising’ reported below.

Matters arising: Alan P had left comments for the meeting. These were:-

Officers Reports:
Chairman had nothing to report.
Treasurer commented that AGM agreed increase in the money retention was a comfort as there was a bank balance of £350 at the end of April.
Secretary Alan P had left notes on self-reporting and the individual competition which are included elsewhere in these minutes. He advised that although he regularly sent our ‘results’ to the Knutsford Guardian their coverage was poor and erratic. Les Jennings had asked about the minimum age for competing in the League. Alan recalled that this was decided to be 12 years when the youngsters at Mere Parish club joined a few years ago. This was endorsed by the meeting. Les knew that this would disappoint the youngster involved as he was only aged nine. But he accepted 12 was a sensible age restriction to have. Alan had wished to report 2 changes in contacts: Brian Jones is Captain of Railway B, contact number as in handbook; Hazel Crook is Vice-Captain Knutsford B tel: 01565 733179.

Handicaps:
New handicap sheets for the 2016 season were circulated. Some discussion took place about the calculations. Les J said that some of his players were new to bowling and wondered how their handicaps would be determined before they had played 4 games. The meeting endorsed the practice of giving ‘unknowns’ an interim scratch handicap. Les was concerned about the effect of this for any ‘new’ player known to be a novice playing in the individual competition who, by then, would not have played 4 games. Chris G. said he would raise this with Alan and ask him to contact Les before producing the score cards for that competition. Otherwise, the handicaps were accepted.

Individual competition:
The individual competition preliminaries will be held on greens to be announced on Friday 3 June. The final to be played at the Church Inn commencing at 12.30 on Sunday 5 June. Carole C. said that refreshments would be available and that these would be at ‘subsidised’ prices. Chris G said that he would ask Alan P to draw attention to this generous Church Inn club subsidised offer when he circulates the draw and competition organisation details.
45 entries had been received and the draw was undertaken. Alan P had asked for the draw results to be given to him ‘raw’ and he would organise the order of play and the preliminary venues

AOB
Chris G noted that the plans for the rebuild of the Mere Club building were now known. Geoff Owen said that work would commence on 9 June and would last for 5-6 months. This puts the Presentation Night date of 25th November ‘at risk’. Alternatives were discussed. Moving the date into 2017 was not acceptable and the only other alternative bowling club venue, the Victory Hall, was thought not to be suitable. The recently renovated Shaw Heath Social Club was suggested as a one-off possibility. Chris G said he would explore this possibility with the other officers and report at the next meeting The Committee authorised the payment of a deposit if that was required even though this might be forfeit if the Mere build had been completed.

There being no other business the meeting closed at 20.50.

Chris Grice
Acting Secretary
May 2016.
