Knutsford Friday Bowling League

Minutes of meeting held Thursday 27th June at Mere Parish Club

Apologies for absence: Apologies were received from Alan Perks (Secretary) John Glover (Equiport) Molly Sutton ( Church Inn) Brian Holcroft (High Legh) and Bernard McLenaghan (Cranford). Chris Grice acted as Secretary in Alan's absence.

Minutes of previous meeting: The minutes of the previous meeting held on 23 May were read and accepted as a true record.

Matters Arising: There were no matters arising that would not be covered by the current meeting Agenda.

Officers Reports: The Chairman congratulated Warford Park on their excellent management of the Individual competition. The organisation of play and the catering was of the highest order and together with the superb weather ensured that a really good competition was enjoyed by all.

The Secretary and Treasurer had no issues to report.

New Player's Handicaps: New player's handicaps were agreed for those who had completed four or more games.

There was a discussion initiated by Darren B (Victory Hall) about the calculation of individual handicaps and the efficacy of the Team handicaps. Chris said he would ask Alan on his return let Darren have details of how the individual handicaps are calculated and how they are applied to competitions. (Chris said that he would also ask Alan to append this to the minutes as he knew that there was uncertainty amongst players about these calculations)*.

On the Team Handicaps there was agreement with Darren about the possible too narrow a spread between teams and Divisions. Darren was reminded that these could be changed by an AGM motion but again Chris said he would ask Alan to look at this issue and report at the next Committee meeting.

Team Knockout: Alan had left score sheets etc for the clubs involved and these were issued. The semi-final and final would be held at Swettenham. Geoff Tickle was assured that this had been agreed with the club but he was asked to let Alan know if 'refreshments' would be available as this could then be communicated in advance. There had been difficulty in finding a 'neutral' green for these stages of the K/O competition. Darren B wondered if playing the semis and final on different dates would make this easier as, in advance, fewer greens could be declared as potentially not neutral. Although this was quite valid, it was thought that the general bowling calendar and the dates of other leagues events would inhibit two separate dates being selected. Again Chris would mention this to Alan and ask for his views on the feasibility of having two separate dates.

Pairs Competition: There were 27 entries for this competition. The draw was made and would be published on the web-site in due course.

Any other Business: There were no AOB items and the meeting concluded at 20.45.

* Subsequently Alan said that he would prefer first to make a presentation on the handicap system at the next Committee meeting.
