Cheadle and Gatley District Bowling League

Season 2010

This page summarises the main dates for the 2010 season, for the Evening League and Veterans’ League, and for the meetings, which are for all clubs.


The Evening League runs for 18 weeks on Tuesday nights from 20th April to 17th August.

The knock-out cup (the Bob Newlan Memorial Trophy) will be played after the league season, with the first three rounds on Tuesday evenings and the semi-finals and final on Sunday mornings:

For the Merit the qualifying round and final are on the Tuesday evenings following the league season and Bob Newlan Trophy (at venues with floodlights).

The Veterans’ League runs for 23 weeks from Tuesday/Wednesday 6/7 April to Tuesday/Wednesday 14/15 September. There are no league matches on 13/14 July, to allow for qualifying in the Merit and for the first round of the P.C.S. Cup.

Great Moor Sports & Social ‘C’ team (in Division 4) will play their home matches at 10.30a.m. on Tuesday mornings. Also, Great Moor A and B teams will each play two home games on Wednesdays and Marple Park A play four home games on Wednesdays.

The veterans’ knock-out cup (the P.C.S. Cup) is played on Tuesdays and Wednesdays starting during the league season and finishing after it. The first round will be split over two days to simplify green allocation. The preliminary round and some first round ties will be played on a Wednesday and the remaining eight first round ties on the following Tuesday.

For the individual merit, qualifying rounds are held on a Tuesday afternoon. These produce eight qualifiers for the final day (with a maximum three games required to qualify). On the final day the winner and runner-up have to play three games.

There are two Delegates’ meetings, at the start and end of the season, and two General meetings in the close season.
